What is Neighbour Care?

Stockbridge Neighbour Care is established under the auspices of the Hampshire Voluntary Care Groups Advisory Service, which is a partnership between the Dioceses of Guildford, Portsmouth and Winchester, and is supported by Hampshire County Council and the Hampshire Primary Care Trust. The Stockbridge Group was established and accredited in 2006, and has been active in supporting the community with taking clients to hospitals, clinics, surgeries, shopping, etc. All members have been officially ‘vetted’.   Members of the group give their time freely, but are able to be recompensed for the cost of their journeys, currently at the rate of about 40p per mile.  A round trip to Winchester hospital, for example, would cost £8. Clients will usually ask if they can make a contribution, and a scale of charges is available on request.  Those who have bus passes are entitled to free journeys, because Test Valley Borough Council has generously agreed to meet our costs in those circumstances.

There are plans to expand the work of the Neighbour Care Group, but these are at a tentative stage.  Details will be posted on the web site when and if they come to fruition.  meanwhile, if you would like to join the group doing this useful work in the community, please contact Roger Tym who will be very happy to talk the project over with you and hopefully enrol you as a member.
